Inherit the Past, Inspire the Future 承先啟後
A permanent exhibition of the Wallace B. Chung and Madeline H. Chung Collection at the Univ. of British Columbia, co-curated by April Liu and Faith Moosang (opened 2024).
To the Klondike!
A permanent exhibition of the Phil Lind Klondike Gold Rush Collection at the Univ. of British Columbia, co-curated by April Liu and Faith Moosang (opened 2024).
Faith Moosang (a brilliant media artist, researcher, writer, curator) and I worked passionately on these two exhibitions since 2019, spending hundreds of hours studying the Chung and Lind Collections. We worked through the pandemic, holding meetings and viewing countless objects online. Setting our goal to decolonize the historical narratives regarding Chinese Canadian migration and the Klondike Gold Rush, we consulted Indigenous knowledge keepers, scholars, and diverse community members across BC and Yukon to share lesser known stories. We also interviewed Dr. Chung and Phil Lind, integrating their voices as collectors into the exhibit. We selected some 700 objects out of over 25,000 items studied, and worked closely with the talented exhibit designers at Lost & Found to present the stories through vivid imagery, multimedia, and text.
