First-Person Historical Narrative Game
Call For Voice Actors
We are currently casting non-union, paid voice-over roles for Telltale, an online, first-person narrative experience created by Faith Moosang and April Liu, and presented by Cinevolution Media Arts Society. Set in British Columbia and inspired by historic events, it explores Chinese Canadian immigration, railway labour, and the fishing industry from the 1880s -1930s. The game will include short voiced segments in English, Cantonese, Toisanese, and Japanese.
We are seeking authentic, grounded, and naturalistic performances (no cartoony, stylized, or exaggerated characterizations). Please review the roles below and submit for any characters that reflect your voice type. We look forward to hearing your voice!
Contract and Fees
● Non-union, paid voice-over engagement
● $100 per hour, with a commitment needed of 1 – 2 hours
● We will cover your parking or transit fees to the recording studio at UBC.
● Recording schedule: Weekdays in September (9am – 5pm), TBD – we will try to accommodate your availability.

Voice qualities: Approximately 30s–60s. A deeper voice with gravitas, reflective, and emotionally restrained.

Voice qualities: Approximately 30s–60s. Quiet, unhurried, intimate, conversational, understated wryness.

Voice qualities: Approximately 30s–50s. Stout, stubborn, uptight, procedural, and stern. A slight British or Scottish accent would be appropriate but not required.

Calum Wright, a gruff yet loyal foreman running a fishing camp

Voice qualities: Approximately 30s–50s. Strong, weathered, unpolished voice with a grounded working-class quality. Gruff, clipped, assertive.

Chinese cook in a railway camp near Kamloops, also a well-spoken deity in disguise
Voice qualities: Approximately 20s–40s. Articulate, composed, and educated, with the ability to shift into a quieter and more informal voice. Ideally a native Cantonese speaker with fluent English.

Voice qualities: Approximately 30s–60s. A warm, expressive, confident, and articulate voice of an educated man who possesses wisdom and life experience.

Voice qualities: Approximately 20s–40s, working class, direct, unfiltered, sassy, may be rough around the edges.

Voice qualities: Approximately 20s–40s. Agile, lively, charismatic, and weathered voice comfortable with expressive laughs, sighs, and grunts characteristic of a labourer who drinks and does hard physical work outdoors.

ROLE 17 – Japanese man (middle-aged or older)
Character(s) performed: Captain Sato Kichiji, a fishing boat captain
Voice qualities: Approximately 50s–70s. Low, unhurried, and economical with words. Weathered but not physically imposing, he commands through stillness and quiet authority. Carries old beliefs and superstitions without sounding dramatic.

Character(s) performed: Moriya Kenji, a fishing camp worker
Voice qualities: Approximately 30s–50s. Dry, flat, deadpan, and blunt, with a low current of resentment beneath the sarcasm. His voice should contrast clearly with both Captain Sato and Heisuke.

Character(s) performed: Sato Heisuke, a fishing camp worker
Voice qualities: Approximately 20s–30s. Lighter, warmer, and quicker than the other fishing voices. Open, kind, playful, sincere and eager to connect.
